IS HAVING AN INVOICE ENOUGH TO GET REIMBURSED?
“I have the hospital invoice. Why do I need anything else?”
This is a common question.
An invoice proves that money was paid.
But a health insurance claim normally requires more than proof of payment.
The insurer may also need to understand:
What happened?
What was the medical condition?
What treatment was provided?
What tests, medicines or procedures were required?
How much was actually charged?
What are the individual medical expenses?
A typical claim file may include:
✓ Claim form
✓ Medical examination record
✓ Diagnosis and treatment recommendation
✓ Prescription
✓ Test/imaging orders and results
✓ Discharge summary, if hospitalized
✓ Surgery documentation, if applicable
✓ VAT invoice
✓ Detailed medical expense statement
✓ Accident statement, where relevant
Example
Imagine you paid VND 5,000,000 at a hospital.
You submit only the invoice.
The invoice shows that you paid VND 5,000,000, but it may not provide enough information about the diagnosis, treatment and individual medical expenses.
The insurer may therefore request additional documents.
Another important point
Not every payment document is treated the same way.
The claims handbook specifies the requirements for VAT invoices and detailed expense statements, and states that ordinary retail receipts are not accepted as substitutes for the required documentation.
So before submitting your claim:
Don’t just ask, “Do I have the invoice?”
Ask:
“Do I have the complete medical and financial documentation?”
That small difference can make the claims process much smoother.
