Personal accident and life cover options in Bao Viet An Gia

When reviewing the Bao Viet An Gia benefits table, many people overlook two small but meaningful lines: Personal Accident Insurance (TNCN) and Personal Life Insurance (SMCN). These are two supplementary benefits of Bao Viet An Gia personal accident and life insurance, adding an extra layer of financial protection when unexpected risks occur. So which level should you choose, how is the premium calculated, and is there a waiting period?

🛡️ What are TNCN and SMCN in Bao Viet An Gia?
TNCN and SMCN are supplementary benefits taken out together with the main program (inpatient treatment for illness, accidents, and maternity complications). In the Insurance Request Form, these two benefits are recorded separately for each insured person: TNCN states the sum insured, SMCN states the sum insured, and the buyer can choose to join or not for each family member.
Note that as supplementary benefits, the specific scope of payment (cases of death, disability, payment levels, etc.) is defined in the Insurance Rules and contract terms. Read the full product documents carefully before signing to understand exactly what you are covered for.
📊 Sum insured options
The advantage of these two benefits is that the sum insured (SI) is quite flexible, letting buyers balance their needs and budget:
- Personal Accident Insurance (TNCN): choose from VND 20 million to VND 1 billion, applied identically across all five programs: Dong (Bronze), Bac (Silver), Vang (Gold), Bach Kim (Platinum), and Kim Cuong (Diamond).
- Personal Life Insurance (SMCN): the maximum level depends on the main program chosen, as shown below.
| Program | SMCN options |
|---|---|
| Dong (Bronze) | VND 20 million – 200 million |
| Bac (Silver) | VND 20 million – 300 million |
| Vang (Gold) | VND 20 million – 500 million |
| Bach Kim (Platinum) | VND 20 million – 700 million |
| Kim Cuong (Diamond) | VND 20 million – 1 billion |
So the higher the main program, the wider the SMCN “ceiling”. If you want a larger SMCN amount, choosing Gold or above opens up more room to choose. Also see the overview of benefits in What to Know About Bao Viet An Gia Health Insurance Benefits.
💰 How premiums are calculated: 0.1% and 0.25% of the sum insured
Unlike inpatient or outpatient benefits (priced by age-and-program rate tables), TNCN and SMCN premiums are calculated as a percentage of the sum insured, according to the Bao Viet An Gia premium schedule:
- TNCN premium: 0.1% of SI/person/year
- SMCN premium: 0.25% of SI/person/year
An example to make it easier to picture: if you choose a TNCN sum insured of VND 500 million, the premium is about VND 500,000/year (500 million × 0.1%); if you choose an SMCN sum insured of VND 500 million, the premium is about VND 1,250,000/year (500 million × 0.25%). This is added to the total premium of the policy along with the other benefits.
Premiums by age and main program are detailed in Bao Viet An Gia Premiums: Age and Plan Pricing.
⏳ How does the waiting period apply?
This is a key difference between the two benefits:
- TNCN: for accident risks, waiting period rules do not apply.
- SMCN: there is a waiting period — specifically 90 days for ordinary illness; 365 days for maternity complications, pre-existing conditions, specially defined diseases, ligament/meniscus tears, ruptures and reconstruction, and diseases listed under general exclusion point 46 of the insurance rules.
For new participants, the waiting period counts from the insurance effective date; for continuous renewals, it counts from the first effective date of insurance (new benefits or increased limits are calculated separately for the difference portion). 🧭 Choosing the right level for your family
TNCN and SMCN are not compulsory, so the level should be based on real financial protection needs. A few suggestions to consider:
- Identify the breadwinner: the main income earner of the family usually needs higher SMCN.
- Balance the total premium: the higher the SI, the more the premium rises proportionally, so choose a level that fits your annual budget.
- Prioritize sufficient main benefits first, then add TNCN/SMCN for family members.
- Clearly record the beneficiary (in case of the insured’s death) and the designated recipient in the contract to make settling benefits smoother later.
Before signing, use this quick checklist to review your choices:
- ☐ Determined the TNCN/SMCN sum insured for each insured person
- ☐ Understood the additional premium at rates of 0.1% (TNCN) and 0.25% (SMCN)
- ☐ Grasped the 90-day and 365-day waiting periods applying to SMCN
- ☐ Fully declared beneficiary/designated recipient information
- ☐ Read the insurance rules and terms related to these two benefits
In short, Bao Viet An Gia personal accident and life insurance is an optional layer of financial protection, with flexible sum insured levels and clearly percentage-based premiums. Consider your actual needs, cross-check the insurance rules and contract carefully, or contact an insurance advisor for answers specific to your family’s situation.
