🩺 What Are the 2 Health Declaration Questions in Flexi Travel Insurance?

In the Insurance Request Form (GYCBH – Giấy yêu cầu bảo hiểm) for Flexi travel insurance, the “Health Status Information” section contains exactly two questions. The answers apply to all insured persons listed in the application, including the policyholder and accompanying family members. Answering honestly is the foundation for the insurance contract to be properly valid.

Question 1: Currently under monitoring or treatment

The first question asks whether any insured person is currently being monitored or treated for disability or illness, or has unstable health symptoms. It targets conditions ongoing at the time of purchase – whether a mild illness under treatment, a healing wound, or symptoms without a clear diagnosis. If anyone in the group answers Yes, you need to prepare detailed information in the additional declaration section.

Question 2: Has had or is being treated for specific diseases

The second question lists a fairly long set of diseases. According to the insurance rules, the list covers these main disease groups:

  • Central nervous system diseases: encephalitis, Parkinson’s disease, other degeneration of the nervous system, memory loss, coma, cerebral palsy, paralysis
  • Diabetes
  • Lung diseases: lung failure, pneumothorax or pleural effusion, chronic respiratory failure
  • Heart and brain diseases: cerebrovascular disease, stroke, heart failure, myocardial infarction, heart surgery
  • Liver diseases: hepatitis, cirrhosis
  • Kidney diseases: kidney failure, kidney atrophy, kidney stones, dialysis
  • Pancreatitis, bone marrow transplant
  • Lupus, tuberculosis (all types), leprosy
  • Tumors of all types, cancers of all types, bone marrow failure, leukemia
  • Sexually transmitted diseases, immunodeficiency syndrome
  • Chronic diseases; congenital diseases, hereditary diseases, gene malformations, physical disabilities, Down syndrome, blood pressure disease, cardiovascular disease

Note that the list includes both diseases you have had in the past and diseases currently being treated. If someone in your family has ever fallen into these groups, the answer is Yes and additional details are required. This matters especially for groups with elderly members or children, as benefits for these age groups may be limited under the policy rules (see how limits differ for children and travellers aged 70+).

📝 How to Declare in Detail If You Answer YES

When any answer is YES, the Insurance Request Form requires details for each insured person. Prepare the following information:

  • Full name of the insured person
  • Detailed description of the illness or health condition
  • Treatment period
  • Treatment facility
  • Current condition

A complete declaration helps the insurer assess risk and handle future claims more transparently. Missing information, on the other hand, can cause difficulties when a claim is needed. If you are unsure how to describe a condition, keep medical records, prescriptions and the latest test results for reference, and ask your consultant before signing.

⚠️ The Commitment When Signing and Consequences of Not Declaring Honestly

When signing the GYCBH, the policyholder and group members attest that they are currently fully healthy in body and mind, fit enough to take the trip, and that the declaration is made while in Vietnam. The trip must also depart within the insurance period, from Vietnamese territory, must not be for the purpose of treating disability or illness or for healthcare, and must not go against a doctor’s advice. You can read more about these departure conditions in the article on Flexi travel insurance duration: up to 365 days and trips departing from Vietnam.

As for consequences, according to the commitment in the GYCBH, if the duty of honest and full declaration is not fulfilled, the insurer has the full right to reduce its liability in whole or in part for the claim. If the non-declaration is intended for insurance fraud, the contract may be cancelled from its effective date. This is why the health declaration should not be treated as a mere formality.

✅ Checklist Before Signing the Flexi Insurance Request Form

  • ☐ Read the two questions in the health status section carefully
  • ☐ Check the health status of all group members, including elderly members and children
  • ☐ Prepare medical records, treatment period and facility if anyone answers YES
  • ☐ Confirm the departure date, insurance period (up to 365 days) and that the destination falls within the chosen insurance zone
  • ☐ Choose the program that suits your family’s needs among the Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond packages
  • ☐ Keep a copy of the GYCBH, the insurance rules and the benefits schedule
  • ☐ Notify the insurer immediately if any relevant information changes

To picture the protections more clearly, you can refer to the articles on the 4 benefit groups under the Certificate and the limit differences between the Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond packages to compare before filling in the form.

The health declaration for travel insurance takes only a few minutes, but it can give the whole family more peace of mind throughout the trip. Answer truthfully, keep the relevant medical records, and double-check the information before signing. If you have questions about a specific condition or how to declare it, contact the insurer or a consultant directly for guidance according to your contract terms.
