Knowing how to react in the critical first few hours protects both your journey and your financial entitlements.

🛂 Scope of Coverage for Lost Travel Documents
Under the Flexi Travel Insurance Terms and Conditions (issued under Decision 6056/QĐ-BHBV), the insurer reimburses reasonable expenses incurred to replace travel documents lost during your trip. Covered causes include robbery, theft, or natural disasters such as storms, earthquakes, and tsunamis.
As defined in the policy, travel documents comprise:
- Identification documents: Passports, entry visas, and other essential paperwork required to prove the purpose of entry.
- Travel tickets: Train passes or integrated public transit passes with a face value exceeding 100 USD (or equivalent exchange rate), cruise tickets, or airline tickets booked for the journey.
Beyond official reissuance fees, the policy reimburses reasonable and necessary additional travel and hotel accommodation expenses incurred while completing replacement formalities. For travel tickets, reimbursement is determined by the actual replacement cost or the unused pro-rata portion of the original ticket, whichever is lower.
💵 Compensation for Cash Lost During the Trip
In addition to travel documents, Section VI of the Flexi policy wording protects money carried by the insured person. Covered funds include cash, cheques, travellers’ cheques, and money orders (credit cards and stored-value cards are excluded).
When these funds are lost due to theft, burglary, robbery, or unexpected natural disasters, the insurer provides reimbursement up to the liability limit of your selected plan. You can review the exact benefit limits across the Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond plans in your insurance schedule.
⚠️ Mandatory Requirement: File a Police Report Within 24 Hours
A strict prerequisite applies to all claims involving lost cash or travel documents:
- You must report the incident to the local police authority having jurisdiction over the area immediately, and at the latest within 24 hours of discovering the loss.
- Any claim submission must be supported by an official written report issued by the local police.
- Failure to secure a valid police report within the prescribed timeframe gives the insurer the right to deny the claim in full.
🚫 Specific Exclusions to Keep in Mind
Travellers should be mindful of events and losses excluded under the policy terms:
- Shortages resulting from personal error, oversight, negligence, currency exchange rate fluctuations, or currency devaluations.
- Loss of travellers’ cheques when the insured fails to notify the local issuing branch or agent immediately.
- Money carried by children, except for unaccompanied minors aged 12 to 16 who are insured under the adult premium rate (where benefit liability is capped at 100 USD).
- Losses related to payment cards or personal belongings falling outside the definition of travel documents (other items must be assessed under the guidelines for lost or damaged luggage abroad).
