Tam Binh’s 5 Plan Tiers Compared: Basic to Premium

Choosing a health insurance plan often leaves families torn: a lower tier may feel insufficient, while a higher tier may feel costly. The key is that the five Tam Binh plan tiers differ not only in sum insured but also in the payout limits of each smaller benefit. Understanding these differences helps you match a plan to real needs instead of choosing on impulse. If you’re new to the product structure, read first What Is Bao Viet Tam Binh? 🧭 Overview of the five Tam Binh plans
According to the benefit schedule, the Tam Binh plan comes in five tiers: Basic, Extended, Enhanced, Comprehensive and Premier. The core difference is the sum insured per person per year for the main benefit (inpatient treatment due to illness, accident and maternity), rising from 60 million to 330 million VND. Supplementary benefits such as personal accident, life and personal accident, and outpatient treatment also have their own caps per plan.
| Plan | Sum insured/person/year |
|---|---|
| Basic | 60,000,000 VND |
| Extended | 100,000,000 VND |
| Enhanced | 160,000,000 VND |
| Comprehensive | 220,000,000 VND |
| Premier | 330,000,000 VND |
The sum insured is the overall liability cap of the main benefit. In practice, each expense is also separately limited per day, per visit or per year, so read both layers of limits carefully.
🏥 Inpatient benefits: hospitalization and surgery
This is the heart of the main benefit. Hospitalization costs due to illness, accident and maternity are paid based on actual costs, up to 60 days/year, with per-day and per-year caps rising by plan:
| Item | Basic | Extended | Enhanced | Comprehensive | Premier |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hospitalization (max/day – /year) | 400,000 – 21,000,000 | 600,000 – 36,000,000 | 1,000,000 – 60,000,000 | 1,400,000 – 84,000,000 | 2,000,000 – 120,000,000 |
| Special surgery/year | 18,000,000 | 30,000,000 | 50,000,000 | 60,000,000 | 97,000,000 |
| Childbirth surgery, procedures, minor surgery/year | 3,000,000 | 5,000,000 | 12,000,000 | 14,000,000 | 20,000,000 |
| Other surgery/year | 10,000,000 | 16,000,000 | 30,000,000 | 40,000,000 | 60,000,000 |
| Hospitalization allowance/day (max 60 days/year) | 100,000 | 150,000 | 200,000 | 250,000 | 400,000 |
| Pre-hospitalization & post-discharge exams/year | 500,000 | 1,000,000 | 1,500,000 | 2,000,000 | 3,000,000 |
| Ambulance/year | 1,000,000 | 2,000,000 | 2,500,000 | 3,000,000 | 3,500,000 |
| Education support (max 2 children) | 500,000/child | 1,000,000/child | 2,000,000/child | 2,000,000/child | 2,500,000/child |
Unit: VND. The hospitalization allowance applies to public hospitals from provincial level and above, excluding international wards, voluntary treatment wards and on-request treatment wards, and does not apply to maternity. Pre- and post-hospitalization exams and ambulance costs also do not apply to maternity.
🛡️ Supplementary benefits: accident, life and outpatient
For supplementary benefits, the policyholder chooses only one of two options: personal accident insurance, or life and personal accident insurance. Both offer death/permanent total disability cover from 20 million (Basic) to 100 million (Premier); permanent partial disability due to accident is paid according to the ratio table multiplied by the sum insured.
The outpatient treatment benefit (optional) also rises by plan:
- Sum insured/person/year: 3,000,000 (Basic, Extended); 6,000,000 (Enhanced); 8,000,000 (Comprehensive); 10,000,000 (Premier).
- Per outpatient visit: max 600,000 (Basic, Extended); 900,000 (Enhanced); 1,200,000 (Comprehensive); 1,500,000 (Premier).
- Physiotherapy: max 100,000/day, max 20 days/year in all plans.
- Dental treatment: max 600,000/year (Basic, Extended); 900,000 (Enhanced); 1,200,000 (Comprehensive); 1,500,000 (Premier), of which dental scaling is limited to 400,000/person/year.
💡 Which plan for your family?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. A few guiding principles:
- Prioritize the hospitalization cap per day: if you rely on public hospitals, 400,000–600,000/day may suit; for more flexibility, higher plans offer caps of 1–2 million/day.
- Consider surgery needs: special surgery has a fairly large separate limit, with a clear gap between Basic (18 million) and Premier (97 million).
- With young children: note the co-payment rules for children aged from 15 days to 3 years and the education support limited to a maximum of 2 children.
- Budget: premiums vary by age band and plan, so compare premiums side by side. Managing family cash flow matters just as much — see the Personal Finance Checklist: 12 Steps to Take Control of Your Money and What Is an Emergency Fund and Why Every Family Needs One.
Some limits apply across all plans: traditional Vietnamese medicine treatment is paid up to 50% of the sum insured of the corresponding benefit; treatment, allowance, death or permanent total disability due to cancer and related complications/consequences (after the waiting period, from the third year of continuous participation) are paid up to 50% of the corresponding sum insured. 📌 Notes before you decide
The payout levels in the tables above are caps under the rules and benefit schedule, and do not mean every cost will be fully paid. Waiting periods, exclusions, acceptance conditions and the scope of hospital fee coverage are specified in the contract and accompanying insurance rules. Check the product documents carefully or contact the insurer or advisor for an explanation based on your own contract before signing the insurance application form.
